Boeing Integrated Defense Systems Awards Cox & Company contract for P-8A Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft Program Low Power Ice Protection Systems

New York, N.Y. October 3, 2005 — Boeing I.D.S. has awarded Cox & Company a contract for the design, development and supply of Low Power Ice Protection Systems for the U.S. Navy P-8A MMA Aircraft.

Cox & Company, Inc will be supplying an advanced Ice Protection System Technology named EMEDS (Electro-Mechanical Expulsive Deicing System). The EMEDS Technology provides ice protection on leading edge surfaces at a fraction of the power required for electro-thermal systems while providing a "clean" aerodynamic surface. Behind the leading edge surface an actuator system "periodically" deflects the wing skin to break off ice forming on the surface. EMEDS was developed by Cox with the support of NASA and is certified by the FAA and other Civil Aviation Authorities.

The Boeing MMA Aircraft is based on a commercial 737 next generation aircraft type. According to Warren Achenbaum, President, Cox & Company, Inc. "This is a key strategic initiative for Cox & Company to advance the EMEDS technology from current business jet usage to future applications on large commercial transports".

Cox & Company, Inc. is a global supplier of systems and services to aerospace, defense and transportation markets specializing in ice protection, temperature control and freeze protection system applications. In-house testing capabilities include the LeClerc Icing Research facility, which is one of the most advanced privately owned icing wind tunnels in the world. Cox is a 100% employee owned company located in New York City. For more information visit www.coxandco.com or contact Steve Landry, VP Marketing, at slandry@coxandco.com.
