Cox & Company receives Phase II NASA Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Contract

New York, N.Y. November 1, 2005 — The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has awarded Cox & Company a Phase II Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Contract for the continued development of low-power ice protection systems for aircraft engine inlets. The success of Cox & Company in the demonstration of a new technology concept formed the basis for this two (2) year follow-on contract to take our basic ideas generated in Phase I of the SBIR and develop them into a commercial product.

This latest NASA contract marks the third time Cox & Company has won a Phase II SBIR during the past ten (10) years. Previous NASA SBIR awards have included the development of Hybrid Electro-Mechanical Expulsive Deicing Systems (EMEDS) and equipment to produce Mixed Phase Conditions in Icing Wind Tunnels. The Cox EMEDS Technology is currently certified for usage on business jet applications as the first new ice protection technology approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the last forty (40) years.

Cox & Company, Inc. is a global supplier of systems and services to aerospace, defense and transportation markets specializing in ice protection, temperature control and freeze protection system applications. In-house testing capabilities include the LeClerc Icing Research facility, which is one of the most advanced privately owned icing wind tunnels in the world.
